Exploring Crete

Immediately following the TOL workshop and just prior to the EMSEA 2015 conference, an intrepid group of explorers took some time to enjoy the Greek island of Crete. We headed for Matala, the area mentioned by singer\songwriter Joni Mitchell in the song Carey. Greek mythology cites Matala as the place where Zeus swam to shore with Europa on his back.

We decided to go to the Red Beach, requiring a hike up and over a hill. The trek was well worth it!

The beautiful Red Beach, including the famous caves and carvings! The true history of the famous limestone caves is unknown, although some historians speculate they may have served as tombs for Romans or early Christians.
